Fox News: Here’s our question for the first presidential debate

On August 6, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act, Fox News will host the first Republican presidential debate.

Two years ago, the Supreme Court gutted this historic piece of legislation, opening the floodgates to all kinds of voter discrimination schemes.

The Jewish community overwhelmingly supports voting rights. We joined the fight for the Voting Rights Act in the 1960s — some were even murdered in the struggle.

So we have a question for the candidates. What will they do to restore this landmark civil rights law? This hasn’t been a partisan issue before: all four previous extensions of the Voting Rights Act have been signed by Republican presidents.

If thousands of us add our names we can get the attention of the media and shine a light on the continuing fight to protect all Americans’ right to vote. We’re teaming up with Media Matters and other partners to make sure Fox News gets the message.

Way too often, Fox News has been ground zero for misinformation about voter fraud, despite a conspicuous lack of evidence. By asking this question they can regain some credibility as a news organization.

Thank You. Now spread the word.

Will you ask you friends to sign, too? If more people join us we can get the attention of the media and shine a light on the continuing fight to protect all Americans’ right to vote.
